Local Programs You Can Help Support:

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

SGCDC has long had a program to provide fresh nutritious food and meals to food-insecure families in our community. At the outset of the pandemic, we expanded both the frequency and size of the program, and the extent of our community outreach. It has also been particularly important during these difficult times to be able to provide fresh healthy food for our most vulnerable residents in a safe, no-contact manner, including deliveries to shut-ins, seniors, and the mobility-impaired. Neighbors Helping Neighbors has provided thousands of meals to low-income residents of the community. We are currently expanding the program to include groceries from local markets. Through this program, neighbors can also help families with gifts and toys during the holidays.

Spring Garden Pharmacy Fund

Many low-income community residents struggle to be able to pay for required medications; and they often must choose between paying for prescription medicines, or nutritious food, utility payments, and other day-to-day necessities. SGCDC has established a program at a local pharmacy to cover copays for prescription medications, as well as for entire prescriptions, as needed. We are also expanding the program to include other pharmacy necessities such as diapers, Depends, nutritional drinks for seniors, vitamins, and baby formula.

Youth Programming

For over 20 years, SGCDC has provided a variety of programs for low-income community youths, including healthy fun recreational programs and enhanced educational opportunities. These have included a full-time art teacher and classroom aides and other support at the local grade school, an after-school homework help program and tutoring, scholarships to summer day camps, overnight camp experiences throughout the country, safe fun activities at the local Playground, and excursions to local museums and other venues. We are constantly working to identify needs among our young people, to provide them with healthy enjoyable recreational

and educational activities, and to help inspire them to stay in school and succeed in a career path of their choice.
